Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 April 2026
Range is designed with your privacy in mind. We collect the minimum data necessary to make the app work, and we don’t track, profile, or share your information.
Location
Range uses your device’s location to show nearby stations and calculate distances. All of this happens on your device — your location is never transmitted to us or anyone else. Range downloads fuel station data for the whole of the UK and filters it locally based on where you are.
You can revoke location access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
Price alerts
If you set up price alerts, Range needs to reach your device when prices change. To make that work, we store the following on our servers:
- An anonymous device token issued by Apple, used to send you notifications
- Which stations and fuel types you’re watching, and any price thresholds you’ve set
- Your locale and time zone, so we can format notifications correctly
We also generate a random ID for your installation — not linked to your name, Apple ID, or any account — which is used to securely verify that requests come from a genuine copy of Range. This ID is stored in your device’s secure Keychain.
This data is only used to deliver your alerts. It is removed from our servers when you disable all your alerts.
If you don’t use price alerts, nothing about you is stored on our servers.
What’s stored on your device
- Preferences — your fuel type, vehicle MPG, tank size, and display settings
- Cached fuel prices — recent station and price data to reduce network requests. Prices are refreshed every 15 minutes; station information every 24 hours
- Favourites and settings — synced across your devices via your personal iCloud account. This includes your favourite stations, MPG, fuel type, and a few display preferences. iCloud sync is handled entirely by Apple under your Apple Account
- Price alerts — your notification settings and station selections, stored locally as well as on our servers when active
- Spotlight search — your favourite stations appear in iOS system search for quick access. This is local to your device and managed by Apple
No analytics or tracking
Range contains no analytics SDKs, no crash reporters, no advertising frameworks, and no third-party tracking of any kind. We don’t use cookies on this website.
Fuel price data
Range gets fuel prices from the UK Government’s Fuel Finder API and participating retailer data feeds, via Range’s own server. These requests contain no personal information — just a request for the current UK-wide station dataset.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in the app. Material changes will be noted with an updated date at the top of this page.
